The Soldier’s Wife

Softly, softly the wind blows
Softly, softly it moans
Creaking the oak tree gently
Bringing thoughts of you to me

Brightly, brightly the sun shines
Brightly, brightly it gleams
Encouraging new life from below
Waking my sleeping heart once more

Slowly, slowly the days pass
Slowly, slowly the world turns
Squares crossed off on the calendar
Waiting for your return

Silently, silently the tears fall
Silently, silently my heart breaks
The message came this morning
You will never return again
